Set & turn Drill
Because the swing has sequence. The golfer has opinions. This is where trouble begins.
The Set & Turn Drill teaches the swing to happen in order. The club gets set. The body turns. Big muscles lead, small muscles follow. The hands are invited, but not asked to take over.
Done simply, it trains sequence. Tweak the clubface, and it becomes a quiet lesson in face control too.
Start with your wedges all the way to your driver.
Steps—
Set up to the ball.
Start your backswing.
Pause when shaft is parallel to the ground—close to your toe line, about hip high.
From there, slowly turn you upper body to the top of the backswing.
Swing through to finish.
Hold your finish while watching the ball flight.
Follow the 3-2-1 Ball Progression.
Use three balls. Two with the drill, then one without.
Use two balls. One with the drill, then another without.
Use one ball. Your normal swing.
Move on to the next club.
Caution—
Do not set the club, then lift your hands to the top. Set the club, then turn. Let the bigger parts, your upper body, carry the smaller parts. This is important. Very important.
Practice Note—
Do this long enough to feel the motion. Then move on to Variability Practice and, ultimately, Competition Practice.
