face direction drill
Because a swing that adjust is more useful than a swing that merely looks pretty
The Face Direction Drill is a variation drill that teaches the clubface to control the ball’s start line. Start it left. Start is right. Split the difference. The first two shots find the edges. The third shot asks for the middle. Do it enough, and intention starts training impact. Visualize or feel what the ball must do, the body starts self-organizing the face to match.
Do this with all your clubs, starting with your wedges.
Instructions—
Set up to the ball.
Swing to start the ball left.
Swing to start the ball right.
Swing to start the ball in-between.
Repeat until you complete the sequence successfully two times in a row. Then move on to the next club.
Use the 9 o’clock Drill or the Release Drill—or both—to close, open, or square the clubface. See what works best for you.
Note—Always predict where the ball start immediately after swinging. No looking. Then verify whether your prediction was correct. This trains your visualization and feel, the two sneaky little skills you will rely on during competition.
